The waters off Mirissa offer wonderful opportunities to encounter some of the ocean’s most magnificent creatures. The main whale-watching season generally runs from November to April, with January to March often offering favourable conditions for sightings.
Tours typically depart from Mirissa Harbour in the early morning, when the sea is calmer and conditions are often more comfortable. Excursions usually last around four to five hours.
Blue whales are the highlight, while sightings may also include sperm whales, spinner dolphins and other marine life. We encourage guests to choose operators who follow responsible whale-watching practices and maintain a respectful distance from marine animals.
